Japan Shocks Germany, Internet in Surprise of FIFA World Cup Win

Japan accomplished a comeback win against Germany in Group E on Wednesday, lighting up social media.

Japan came out in the second half firing on all cylinders despite the DFB squad ending the first half with a 1-0 lead. Japan took a 2-1 lead after scoring twice in as many minutes.

In the final 15 minutes of the game, substitutes Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano scored both goals in the second half.

Ilkay Gundogan scored the opening goal for Germany in the Group E match after converting a penalty kick, but despite numerous chances, they were unable to add to their total.

Fans expressed their disbelief and support for Japan on Twitter following the surprise victory.

To celebrate the victory, locals and Japanese supporters congregated at Tokyo's Shibuya Scramble crossing.

Now that the matches are approaching, both Japan and Germany will concentrate on them. On Sunday at 8 a.m. ET, Japan will take on Costa Rica, and at 2 p.m. ET, Germany will square off against Spain.
