FIFA World Cup 2022: France down to one left back as Lucas Hernandez exits Qatar with torn ACL

In their opening match in the group round on Tuesday, France easily defeated Australia 4-1, but not without some pain.

Left back Les Bleus According to the French Football Federation, Lucas Hernandez departed the game after just 13 minutes of play during the Socceroos' scoring run due to an injury that was later determined by an MRI to be an ACL tear in his right knee.

In addition to ending his World Cup, the injury will keep Bayern Munich's star player out of action for the foreseeable future as the German club gears up for the Champions League knockout stage in February.

Karim Benzema's injury prevented him from competing in this World Cup, which was bad enough for Deschamps, but he decided not to deploy a replacement, leaving him with just 24 players for France's remaining games.

Presnal Kimpembe, Christopher Nkunku, and other players from the original lineup had to be changed due to injuries, and N'Golo Kante, Paul Pogba, and other players weren't healthy enough to compete.

The only defenders with experience playing on the right wing are Benjamin Pavard and Jules Kounde, thus if Hernandez is unable to play, someone will have to play out of position at left back.
