The "saving grace" for the Massachusetts Lottery is games like Powerball and Mega Millions.

Not only did the person who held the winning Powerball ticket walk away with a windfall.

So did the Massachusetts Lottery thanks to the record-breaking payout.

Lottery Interim Executive Director Mark William Bracken reported during a Tuesday meeting of the Lottery Commission .

The latest fiscal year-to-date figure of $2.55 billion in sales of Massachusetts Lottery products is only about $11.6 million.

This comes after several months of sluggish sales.

The gap between this year's sales and those of last year has narrowed considerably over the past couple of months.
