The jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions lottery is very close to reaching $1 billion.

The Mega Millions jackpot has reached over one billion dollars, making it one of the greatest payouts in the game's history. 

On Tuesday, there was no winner who matched all six numbers, so the jackpot continued to climb.

The multi-state lottery organisation made the announcement on Wednesday that the next drawing.

Since the Mega Millions lottery began operations in 2002, this is the fourth-largest prize to ever be won.

Since the last jackpot was won in October, there have been a total of 23 draws held.

The most recent occasion a player chose all six numbers was on October 14.

There are now 45 states, the District of Columbia, and the United States Virgin Islands that participate in the Mega Millions lottery.

It was originally distributed to the public in 2002 and consists of a six-number draw.

The winners were divided between them.
