“NSW players have had a remarkable year with Powerball,” The Lott spokesperson Matthew Hart told 7NEWS.com.au.
“Lotteries are games of chance so a win can land anywhere at any time.
“Only time will tell if that run continues this week.”
Victoria came in second with three wins throughout 2022, with one win each in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
The upcoming jackpot prize is the first time Powerball has offered $100 million this year, after no division one winners were uncovered during the past four Powerball draws.
Around half of Australian adults are expected to put in an entry.
In the lead up to the big day, the ‘hottest’ picks and postcodes have been revealed.
The luckiest locations
State-by-state, certain postcodes have proved particularly lucky when it comes to producing prosperous picks.
In Victoria, Frankston (3199) sold four division one winning entries.
In New South Wales and the ACT, Port Macquarie (2444) sold three division one winning entries.
In Queensland, Bundaberg and North Bundaberg (4670), sold three division one winning entries, as did Rural View and Slade Point (4740).
In South Australia, Adelaide (5000) also sold three division one winning entries.
In Tasmania, Launceston and Newstead (7250) sold two division one winning entries.
In the Northern Territory, the postcode of Berrimah (0828) delivered the Top End’s biggest division one prize from an in-store ticket.
In Western Australia, Hamilton Hill, Yangebub and Spearwood (6163) sold five division one winning entries.
“Over the course of the year and across all games, we naturally tend to see more division one wins in those states where there are more people and players,” Hart told 7NEWS.com.au.
“In fact, last financial year, Victoria had the most division one wins across all games with 153, while NSW and the ACT were not too far behind with 141.”
‘Hottest’ entry numbers
From the main barrel, where seven winning numbers are drawn from 35, the most frequently drawn numbers are 17, 9, 2 and 25,
From the separate Powerball barrel, where a single Powerball number is drawn from 20, the most frequently drawn Powerball number is 19.
“Of the Powerball division one winning entries so far this year, about two-thirds have been QuickPick entries, where the lottery terminal randomly chooses the numbers on the ticket,” Hart said.
“The remaining winning tickets have been marked entries, where people have deliberately chosen the numbers on their tickets.”
“To win Powerball’s division one prize, you need to match all seven winning numbers, drawn from a barrel of 35, and the all-important single Powerball number, drawn from a separate barrel of 20.”
As with any game of luck, Hart says “it doesn’t matter whether you mark your entry or grab a QuickPick” or where you purchase your entry.
“As long as you’ve got a ticket in your hand before the draw’s close, you’re in with a chance to win.”
